'The part I like most about this volunteering role is welcoming all students to classes and meeting a variety of people'

What are your main duties and how do they benefit others?

As president of the Yoga Society, I liaise with the SU coordinators, our yoga teacher and other committee members to ensure yoga sessions go ahead. This year it was essential to move our in-person classes to the online zoom format. The classes continued twice a week throughout the trimesters throughout this academic year, of which new members were welcomed and social quizzes were held to encourage and facilitate new friendships.

What have you enjoyed most about volunteering?

The part I like most about this volunteering role is welcoming all students to classes and meeting a variety of people.

What skills have you learnt and used during your volunteering?

Organisation for sure! Sending out the emails with the links, liaising with the co-ordinators and teacher twice a week really demands organisation

What are your future career aspirations?

I am working on a research degree (PhD) and I would like to go into research to help as many people as possible! Volunteering definitely helps this

What inspires you to volunteer?

Helping others

What is your favourite volunteering memory?

My favourite memory has been when I helped organise a yoga give it a go session that was run in the 2021 refreshers week. It was great to be able to provide a free session to encourage more students to try out a new activity and promote mindfulness.

Why do you love volunteering?

The things I most like are the interaction with people you wouldn't normally meet and helping others have fun!
