Job Opportunities

We exist to represent approximately 20,000 students at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU). We are a registered charity and company limited by guarantee. Our activities are managed and supported by 34 professional staff members and 55 part-time student staff who work for us alongside their studies. We have a turnover of approximately £2 million per annum and our activities are spread across campuses in Cambridge, Chelmsford and Peterborough.

In addition to our core purpose of being the legitimate representative body for students at ARU, we provide a range of services; academic and welfare advice, support to students running societies and volunteering opportunities in and around the campuses. We also run two bars and a campus shop. Whilst we play an important student representative role that sometimes sees us challenge the University, we work closely with them and support areas of delivery within their strategy.

Volunteer Centre Coordinator

21 hours per week

£20,131 - £22,439 (pro rata)

Cambridge Campus

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Volunteer Centre Coordinator to join our team. The role will be to coordinate the ongoing development and effective operation of the Volunteer Centre, the hub for all volunteering activity at Anglia Ruskin University working with students, staff and organisations. The Volunteer Centre Coordinator will help students to make a real difference to the lives of others and stand out from the crowd with experiences that build confidence and develop skills.

You will have experience of working with volunteers and building relationships with a diverse range of people.

You should have excellent communication skills, both written and oral and have excellent time management & prioritising skills.

Student Staff Job Opportunities - £8.45 per hour

We are currently hiring for the following Student Staff roles:

SU Heroes

Cambridge or Chelmsford Campus

Students' Union Heroes are a team of ARU students we recruit for each new academic year to support and welcome new and returning students to Anglia Ruskin. Heroes help us to welcome and move-in students and offer information about the services of the Students’ Union. The role is integral to students’ first impressions of ARU and the Students’ Union and as an SU Hero, you can make sure that students have a great first experience of university life. 

This role is fixed term and the majority of shifts will take place during the Welcome Period (09/09/2017 - 01/10/2017) but there may be further flexible opportunities for shifts throughout the year. This role can be taken on alongside other student staff roles at the SU so multiple applications are welcome.

Communications & Marketing Assistant

Cambridge Campus

We are looking for a student to assist the Communications & Marketing team with our external communications activity across our channels.
Tasks will include delivering communications and marketing plans, promoting key events and activities and distributing publicity materials both online (through the website, social media platforms, app) and offline (through printed posters on student noticeboards). You will also create relevant, engaging and shareable digital marketing material.

Hours of work: one day per week (7 hours) term time.

Reception/Administration Assistants

Cambridge or Chelmsford Campus

We are looking for Administrative Assistants to work in the Students' Union Office on either the Cambridge and Chelmsford campus. You will provide high quality, friendly reception service to all members and visitors to the Students' Union office both face to face and on the telephone.  You will also assist with office services such as ticket sales, photocopying and administering Advice Service appointments. 

Hours of work:
Chelmsford - Generally 4 hour shifts any time between 10am - 4pm
Cambridge - Availability of hours will generally be scheduled as half days from Monday – Friday between 9am-5pm.

There will also be the occasional opportunity to work the weekends or evenings for open days or other events.

Bar and Promotion Assistants

Cambridge or Chelmsford Campus

We are looking for current students to work for us throughout the year across a variety of areas within our commercial services department. You will need to be friendly, outgoing and always willing to help. You will need to show outstanding customer service and will be ambassadors of the Students’ Union to students and public.

Shop Assistants

Cambridge Campus

We are looking for students to support the day to day running of the SU Shop on the Cambridge campus. You will need to be friendly and deliver a high level of customer service at all times in the role. Tasks will include for example assisting with cash and card transactions, restocking and tidying displays and opening and closing the shop. 

Hours of work: Generally 3 / 4 hour shifts between 10.30 am – 6pm Monday–Friday (during teaching weeks).

Minibus Drivers

Cambridge Campus

£8.45 per hour

The Students' Union are currently looking for people with a D1 driving licence in Cambridge, to drive our SU minibuses on numerous occasions throughout the year.

Training will be provided and hours will be available on a weekly basis.
