What are your main duties and how do they benefit others?

I am the HEMS faculty rep, and my main role is to collect student feedback and improve the experience that HEMS students have at university. I spend time in meetings standing up for what students will want/won’t want from the university, and also help organise events for important days eg nursing and midwifery day.

What have you enjoyed most about volunteering?

I enjoy seeing the benefits my role has on students. The SU are very supportive and I know that if I ever have any issues they will be more than happy to help!

What skills have you learnt and used during your volunteering?

I have gained a lot of confidence and have also majorly improved my communication skills. I have learnt how to be professional in meetings and emails too.

What are your future career aspirations?

I want to be a health visitor, and doing this role has helped me gain confidence speaking to people I don’t know.

What inspires you to volunteer?

I love the idea of helping others to express their views that they wouldn’t be able to express otherwise.

What is your favourite volunteering memory?

I’m not sure I could pick one, but I got on amazingly well with the other reps I worked with in my first year of doing this role, and its nice to meet people I wouldn’t have met otherwise!

Why do you love volunteering?

Its a sense of achievement you don’t get from doing paid work!

Do you have any last thoughts or comments?

I have received this award once before, so its nice to win twice in a year!
