The 8th - 12th February 2016 is Student Volunteering Week!
Join us for a week of events dedicated to celebrating student volunteering and our ARU student volunteers!
We'll be holding events across Cambridge and Chelmsford and we would love for you to get involved.
CAMBRIDGE CAMPUS
Monday 8th February:
Volunteering Office Drop In Day - 10am - 3pm - HEL 123 - If you're thinking about volunteering and want to know what opportunities we have, pop in to Helmore123 to speak to a volunteer coordinator!
Give It A Go: Blogging Session - 3-4pm - LAB 220 - Are you interested in setting up a blog? Join us to learn some skills and hear some tips and tricks for running a successful blog.
Tuesday 9th February:
SU Opportunities Fair - 11am - 3pm - Helmore Street - Come along to find out what exciting opportunities the SU has for you to boost your CV!
Wednesday 10th February:
SVW Volunteering Day! - All Day - Various Locations - We'll be holding a range of volunteering events so there is something for everyone to have a go at!
- Volunteering Tour of Cambridge - 11am - 3pm - Meet at Helmore Reception at 11am - Come with us on a tour of Cambridge and volunteer along the way! We'll visit a local charity in the morning and volunteer for a couple of hours before breaking for lunch and then spending another couple of hours at a second local charity. - YMCA Vintage Fashion Design Session - 11-1pm - Mill Road - meet at Helmore Reception at 11am - Are you interested in fashion? Have you got sewing or craft skills? Come and help us upcycle and redesign donated vintage goods at the YMCA Vintage Shop. All materials will be provided and it's absolutely free! Sign up at www.angliastudent.com/volunteering/events.
- PsychSoc Sponsored Sleep Out - 8pm - 8am - The Courtyard - Sign up in advance! - Are you passionate about helping homeless charities? Could you spend a night sleeping outside? Sign up for PsychSoc's Sleep Out and get yourself sponsored! PsychSoc are raising money for Emmaus, a local homelessness charity by getting sponsored to spend the evening out in the Courtyard. Thursday 11th February:
Volunteering Fair - 11am - 3pm - Helmore Street - Come along and meet local charities to find out what opportunities there are for students here at ARU!
Friday 12th February:
Cambridge Clear Up with Cambridge City Council - 11am - 3pm - Meet at Helmore Reception at 11am - Join an army of ARU students and volunteers and help to clean up Cambridge green spaces! Sign up here: www.angliastudent.com/volunteering/events.
Prize Giving - 3-5pm - HEL123 - We'll be announcing the winner of our SVW competitions! Share your photo with the hashtag #Ivolunteerbecause and the photo with the most likes could win £25! We'll also have a prize draw for a volunteer who has already achieved their silver or gold volunteering award this year!
CHELMSFORD CAMPUS
Monday 8th February:
Why Volunteer? - Video Making Session - 9am - 1pm - MAB Mezzanine - Help us to make a community video! We'll be asking students and the Chelmsford community why people should volunteer.
The People's Patch Taster Session - 1.55pm - MAB Reception - Come and find out more about our 'flying high' greenhouse!
Tuesday 9th February:
The People's Patch Allotment/Sanctus Homeless Project - 10am - 3pm - MAB Foyer - Join us for an afternoon on our charitable allotment. We'll be planting 'seeds to feed' and selling flowers grown in the allotment!
Wednesday 10th February:
Clubs and Societies Volunteering Day - 3 teams of students from ARU clubs and societies will go out into the community to volunteer for the day.
Thursday 11th February:
Health and Social Care Volunteering Day - 10am -3pm - MAB Foyer - Local charities will join us to showcase their volunteering opportunities. Come and meet local organisations and you could win a goodie bag!
Friday 12th February:
Coffee and Cake: Open Office Day! - 10am - 3pm - Volunteering Service, Ground Flood Tindal Building - Meet Emma and Tracey, your friendly volunteer coordinators and explore volunteering over a cuppa.
