Cambridge Committee Member of the Month December: Charlotte Baggaley

Charlotte Baggaley is a second year Forensic Science student and President of both the Harry Potter Society and the new Forensic and Criminal Investigations course based society.

Through her roles Charlotte has hosted many events including the O.W.L.S and N.E.W.T.S quizzes for her Harry Potter society which raised nearly £100 for Lumos, a charity which helps to rescue children from orphanages and reunite families. She has also helped to run science based movies and documentary viewings once a month to help reduce stress among her cohort and has helped organise bigger events including NERDS Assemble.

“I have enjoyed meeting many new faces and getting to celebrate my passions with people who I can celebrate with. I volunteer because it is incredibly fun and I have made many lifelong friends out of this!”

By volunteering to lead societies Charlotte has learnt and enhanced a number of skills including leadership, problem solving and learning how to work under pressure. The skills she has learnt will enable Charlotte to become more employable as a future primary school teacher, a career that Charlotte is aspiring to.

Abi Dolan, the Societies and Activities Coordinator in Cambridge comments on Charlotte’s contribution to the SU:

“Charlotte has been a fantastic President so far and is genuinely keen to encourage all members of her society to take part and make new friends. Charlotte has hugely grown in confidence this semester and the skills she has learnt so far have all developed 10 fold in the last few months and will only continue to develop in her time as a committee member.”

Thank you Charlotte for taking the initiative to ensure your fellow students feel connected within your course and those who have common interests, making people smile and for inspiring your committees to lead such fantastic events.
