ADORA SIQUEIRA

Who am I?
My name is Adora Siqueira, a third-year biomedical student. I am one of the nominees for the Student Union elections 2023, standing for Vice President for the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE). My hobbies include playing badminton, chess, and table tennis. I also watch football league games and because I’m loyal, I support Barcelona. However, I also like watching Messi play for PSG.

What do I plan to do when I get elected?
• Firstly, I would work with the computer science students to make an application (app) for the Students Union. The app would be easily accessible and notifications for the student’s union events could be easily booked directly through the app, instead of keeping on logging through the website. This app would allow many computer science students engage and could help make a stronger resume during job interviews.
• Secondly, I would change the food menus in the canteen (eatery). Seeing the same food menus in the canteen for months can be very unpleasing. I would work with the eatery to change food menus every week. The menus would include all diets : vegan, vegetarian and halal (non-veg). There will be suggestion boxes at the canteen asking students to suggest food meals and deals they’d like. The most affordable suggestions will be taken into consideration as I am also trying to decrease the prices as much as possible.
• Next, I would focus on increasing funding for society and extracurricular events. Some of the famous guest speakers from their field of career from all over the UK would be invited. This would encourage students to decide on the future careers and pathways. Personally, I think three years of university isn’t enough to decide a future career, especially with the course I am studying. Therefore, I wish for students, especially from the FSE faculty to gain inspiration and aid them towards a successful future.
• For now, lastly, I would work with the ARU residential service to reduce rental costs and increase the quality of living by a weekly technical service, as I’ve seen the lift at Peter Taylor break down every week. For returning students, I will make sure every student gets enough help from the university to get an accommodation. The way our university is dealing with accommodation help right now isn’t good enough as they only redirect us to a website, but it doesn’t guarantee a room.
