CHRYS NNABUIFE

MANIFESTO FOR THE POST OF VICE PRESIDENT (Healthcare Practice)

My name is Mr. Chrys Nnabuife. I am a second-year student studying Adult and Mental Health Nursing.

It is clear from my observation that our university environment is experiencing some serious challenges in the provision of adequate services and enhancing student learning experiences ranging from the prompt release of results, sorting of placement tethering problems, and students’ engagement.  These challenges have notably affected the mental health of some of our students. You’ll agree with me that amongst other things, the success of an effective learning system hinges on a functioning academic structure. Hence, the need to create a working system that would benefit the students as well as the academic and non-academic staff. To this effect, I crave your support to elect me as the Vice President (Healthcare Practice. I pledge to do everything within my power to make the university experience satisfying.

The first on my list of objectives is in the area of COMMUNITY CARE CENTER.

When elected, I would see to it that I address all students’ concerns in the best way possible. One of such is to signpost them to the appropriate offices so they can access the right services required.

Correspondingly, I will prioritise the need to foster equality; an aspect centred on vulnerable communities including Freshmen, International Students, Newcomers/Refugees/Exchange Students, Students with dependents, Students with disability, and Students who belong to the LGBTQ Community. I will ensure that each person gets the support and care they need because everyone deserves to be treated fairly notwithstanding their social background and identities. Permit me to bring to bear that no form of violence would be accommodated under my watch. There will be practically no room for violence and abuse because I would personally see to it that perpetrators are brought to justice. It is imperative to point out the need for students to speak up and seek help if they have been violated mentally, emotionally, physically, or otherwise.

Another aspect I would prioritise is our financial accessibility. When I am elected president, I will ensure that all students, irrespective of their background, nationality, colour, or social status receive, and can access, financial support. They will be entitled to bursaries and scholarships. I promise to do all I can to convince all respective entities to embrace and amplify emergency or off-campus housing services. Students who may need help or advice with accommodation, food, traveling, study skills, canvas, online lectures, assignments, or any university-related issues, should feel free to come to me for the needed assistance. To the international students who are far from home and need help, I vow to do all I can within my capabilities to provide help. And if you ever need a friend, a mentor, and an advisor, I will avail myself.

The second objective I would focus on is the POST–PANDEMIC RECOVERY PLAN FOR A STUDENT UNION.

The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic took a heavy toll on every student, as well as the entire University community. As a result of this, we had some major setbacks. Nonetheless, I assure you all that we will scale back up. After giving it much consideration, I came up with a strategic recovery plan that would benefit everyone. One of the steps I would take is to encourage the Faculty of HEMS to survey students on what they need in order to succeed in this academic year while focusing on how to rebuild the already depleted healthcare system, re-establish students' confidence and rebuild assertive trust with the university.

Last but not least on my objective as Faculty President, is to ESTABLISH A DIRECT MEDIUM OF COMMUNICATION FOR STUDENTS TO VOICE THEIR OPINION.

If I am elected, my aim will be to promote and foster transparency among all the essential bodies on the campus. In this light, I intend to make sure that we have utilized the varied student-run forms of communication to create and raise awareness of the relevant issues and events happening around us.

In a nutshell, my administration will make sure that you have a wonderful learning experience in a serene environment that is void of acrimony and rancour. My goal is to transform the university system into a place of equal opportunities, and a fun place to study. Therefore, I crave your support and plead with all and sundry to vote for me as the Faculty President for that is the surest way of giving your thoughts and aspirations a voice. I am certain that together we can transform our faculty to attain an enviable height.
