Before you read my manifesto, I would like to tell you why I’m running for VP. This role is actually all about YOU ,your education and your welfare. I hope to represent students on matters relating directly to students' education. However I know that sometimes we all need advice, support and a listening ear. My aim is to ensure that every student has access to whatever support they need in order to make their time at ARU as wonderful as possible.
I aim to provide a direct link between you and the university’s support network. If there is something that you want to see improved that doesn’t appear on this manifesto, get in touch, as I want to represent YOU!
As a course rep I feel like I am very experienced in putting across the students’ voice and listening to problems no matter how small or silly it might be viewed by others. Being a Business student has given me key arguing skills and the ability to portray my views effectively to others, both through writing and verbally. If voted in for VP Business and Law, I will ensure that the students’ views are top priority.
What am I running for?
- Building stronger societies and help to create more societies
- Students being able to feel more involved with the Union
- Encourage more volunteering outside of University
- Increase organised trips relevant to study
- Increasing placement opportunities
- Workshops On assignments
- Improving Disability support
- Student friendly support system
Making the students aware of societies which are brilliant places for expressing their hobbies, showing their passion for their degree and a great place to meet like-minded people. Societies are fantastic and can boost your love for different things, helping you find new interests you never realised you liked! I want to break down the barriers that stop students feeling as if they are not welcome in and I intend to engage more students with the Union through showing what there is and what can be created. I want to help boost societies further than ever, letting them thrive and allow for more to build and grow, I want to allow for societies to flourish by supporting them and helping them to grow so students can enjoy them and be part of something they love.
Being an active part in the Students’ Union throughout my university life has given me fantastic experience with how the Union works and what students need and deserve from them. As current Public Relation Officer for Indian Society and former Treasurer of the Business Society, this has made me realise that societies are crucial to get students involved in the Union and are a great and beneficial part to university life. The Indian Society has grown significantly in my term as Public Relation Officer , almost doubling in both the amount of members and participation at our events. I have also been a student representative for my course My position as student representative on the Faculty meetings helped improve things fo Business students and I gained experience in communicating with management within the university.
Volunteering can help us gain confidence by giving you the chance to try something new and build a real sense of achievement and volunteering within the Union is already significant, but my aim is to create this group to allow students to gain experience outside of the university. This can be done through the security of the Union, helping find opportunities for students that were previously unreachable alone or unknown. This allows for the Students’ Union to be known outside of university walls, giving students an opportunity to show their dedication towards society.
Going on a field trip enhances the critical thinking skills and gives students a chance to think about a topic or theme from a different perspective. Field trips offer a unique opportunity for students to create connections, which will help them gain understanding and develop an enjoyment of learning. Students on field trips sharpen their skills of observation and perception by utilizing all their senses I want the students to explore such and have a progressive university Life
I would like to improve employability by providing a small skills-based course or training and Work closely with the placement team and increase the chance to get more placement opportunities for students with FBL faculty and eventually across the university
I will work on organizing workshops by the Student Union on topics such as Plagiarism, Essay Writting skills, budgetting for books and fees, and easy steps for search of online journals and resources.
my main goal of the year would be to increase the amount of help across campuses that student’s get both with disability and mental health. I would work alongside the University and external services to allow mental health and counselling help to be more accessible to students as well as advertising the existing drop in counselling sessions to make them better known.
My belief is that everybody, regardless of disability, mental illness or neurodiversity, has the right to the same treatment, respect and university experience. They have this ,Right to be treated equally within peer groups, the right to have the same opportunities and expectations as an able-bodied, neurotypical person, the right to accessibility in the physical and virtual world and the right to both academic and personal support system.
Accommodation, food, travel, university issues, study skills, canvas, online lectures, assignments ,I am here to help in any way I can, particularly for the international students who are away from home and need a friend. University can be a difficult time but hey! I am here always to support you.
Again, I’m Lohith and I am running for VP FBL and give your thought a voice. Please make sure you vote between 25th February to 3rd March.
