MANIFESTO

Candidate for the position of MA Fine Art / Printmaking - Course Rep

SHANIELLE MONANGAI

Shanielle Monangai MA Fine Art Course Representative

In my 4 years of undergrad 3 years at one university being a course representative and a final year student at ARU, I gained an insight into the diverse ways and responsibilities that are needed to prosper and make positives moves for change, in creating helpful experiences for students of the university. With this in mind I would love the opportunity to further be a part of the course representative team by applying to be MA Fine Art course rep. I’ve been in multiple positions that lead me to work with groups and individuals to be a strong communicator and also be assertive and use my integrity.

Throughout my schooling years I’ve been in team roles and roles to help other new students, from being a buddy to new year 7 students, to being a prefect making sure things ran smoothly and efficiently while working in a team. But I personally think my most effective role that helped my perspective on beige in a team and working well with others, putting the right foot forward was being a senior NCO (non-commissioned officer) in the air cadets organisation (ATC).  Going through the ranks and making it to a Sergeant gave me the responsibility and the enlightenment to efficiently work with others, strategically come up with ideas that are beneficial and find the value of effective simplicity to not over complicating matters and use my initiative to handle matters and situations if the outcome changed or altered.

I pride myself on being an understanding person and being able to engage well with others and communicate well, being enthusiastic, hardworking and up to the task. Most importantly not afraid to ask questions to get the best and most effective result and if I don’t understand I’m willing to pay attention and work hard to find and have a better determined outcome.

Values I picked up during my time as a Cadet lie in a motto that the air training corps used RISE- Respect, Integrity, Service, and Excellence. In these values;

Respect: Mutual and Self Respect
Integrity: Moral Courage - Honesty - Responsibility - Justice
Service: Physical Courage - Loyalty- Commitment - Teamwork
Excellence: Personal Excellence – Discipline -Pride

I still try to abide by these values to always try and strive to put my best foot forward and show my distinctive character, spirit and attitude and try and contribute and have the ability to pull together and work with others.

Truly I think that working and being part of the student union is a great experience and something that’s liberating student empowerment, having the resources and chance to do and be a part of effectively bettering the student experience at University. Being able to work with likeminded people who want the possibility for students to feel comfortable at home and part of the community, I enjoyed being a course representative creating effective step for me to support and help others was liberating and a positive interaction between myself other students and staff, having the possibility to do it again would be satisfying to me. Thank you.
