It is important to know that Black and minority ethnic (BME) is referred to non-white descent races.
My intentions with this role is not for the title, it is solely based on providing a voice and a platform for this student community. I intend to create an environment for students where they are certain that they will be heard and receive valuable feedback. I am interested to take on this role to demonstrate the importance of diversity and to show how amazing it is to involve everyone in different types of culture. As an individual from Luton, who is South Asian and grew up with mostly non-white descent races, I would thrive to my full potential to educate others the importance of diversity.
Personally, the main trait I look in to humanity is equality. I believe that everyone deserves to be treated the same as the person next to them, whether they are different within races, gender, appearances. I am keen to prevent negativity such as, racism, stereotypes, categories in social injustice and many more. With the students’ support, I aim to create a network with societies that involve in BME groups to have regular discussions and organise surveys for students, so there will be progression in performing actions that will give beneficial change to the community.
I believe that I am a worthy candidate as I have experiences with different race, age, culture and many more. I have been able to adapt to the situations from having an understanding point of view, especially from the period of time when I worked at Specsavers, this job role allowed me to provide service to the members of the public who come from all different types of background. Additionally, I have worked with vulnerable children by volunteering at Families United Nations (FUN), which involved children with disabilities, and as a nursery assistant.
