I know starting Uni is a frightening yet exciting experience, where you can learn a variety of different skills and build friendships with people from many different backgrounds. Now, with the pandemic, this experience has changed drastically, and we are heading toward uncharted territory. I only moved to the UK when I was 7 so I think I know a bit about uncertainty! So, I think we can all agree that the pandemic has made everything harder and brings a unique set of challenges to us all. Which is why I want to be student representative for our course: I want work hand in hand with the faculty to deliver a more concise and interactive way of learning.
Throughout my first week or so on the course, the main thing I’ve noticed is that you have been having trouble navigating canvas, finding your lessons, and understanding specifically what is needed of you by each module and by when. As course rep, my first order of business will be to fix this by communicating it (and your other feedback) to the faculty, so that we can improve how the material is delivered so that no one is left out.
If you have any worries pertaining to the course, particularly the student-staff interactions, you can always come to me and I will be happy to listen to all and every one of your concerns. Even if you may think it is insignificant don’t be afraid to contact me with it and I’ll articulate it to the rest of the faculty and give you rapid feedback and responses from the staff/student liaison meetings.
In the past I have held roles such as a senior prefect, charity co-ordinator, and EMPV rep (ethnic minority pupils voice group) all through which I’ve accumulated and developed the essential skills required to carry out this position to the best standards. My wish is to build a better community with my fellow students in these harsh times, and, with your help and your vote, we may just be able to do that.
