Hello everyone, I'm Maddison

I'm in my first year of Primary Education Studies (Accelerated) at the Chelmsford campus. This trimester, I've opted to study online and on campus. So for those who haven't met me yet, I'm in on a Monday morning asking lots of questions between 8am - 12pm.

I'm very excited to become a teacher. What inspired me into the world of teaching is that I'm passionate about addressing mental health as a key part of the primary school curriculum. 1 in 10 children suffer with a mental health issue and this is a worrying statistic. I fear post Covid-19 these numbers will dramatically rise. I have and still do struggle from time to time with mental health. When I was younger, I would have loved if this was addressed earlier on. Education can be a vital tool in children's development and understanding but also their own therapy. I want to ensure that mental health is properly recognised in schools and doesn't hinder achievement. Further to this, I feel strongly about reiterating the importance of addressing SEN in all school's. Safeguarding is an area I would like to specialise in post my studies. Moreover, I want to help children to reach their full potential. I'm aware not all children find learning fun, this is why I am interested in pedagogy; finding the best methods to engage our future generation.

As you may be able to tell, I am super passionate about education. As a course rep, I will welcome any suggestions that you have regarding our course and how to best support your learning. I hope to deliver this feedback clearly and concisely to the committee. I have previous experience voicing ideas as a student voice ambassador, house captain and backchat representative whilst at school. I'm very easy to contact, whether this be in person, on email or even social media. I will most definitely strive to ensure that all feedback has a direct outcome and that resolutions are achieved for us students. I look forward to hearing your ideas and how we can make a difference together.

I thought I'd include some fun facts about me too:

-I speak fluent French, it was mandatory in my primary school to learn this from year one.
-I have visited 17 countries but one of my biggest goals is to visit at least 30.
-I'm really interested in Art. I have an arm full of tattoos of famous portraits in history.
-I lost all my baby teeth in reception (I'm still not sure of the reason why). Perhaps someone has an answer from a developmental theory.
