OLIVIA GANSALLO

Hello everyone! For those of you that don’t know me, my name is Olivia Gansallo and I’m hoping to be the new course rep for 2020/2021 medical science. My understanding of a course rep is to create a better engagement between the students and the faculty members/lecturers for the course and will benefit pupils and if I was to be the course rep for medical science, I would try my best to create this.

Studying medical science for a year, being in the whatsapp group chat and having frequent engagement with my peers, has brought to my attention the amount of ideas that we all have for the best results and possible resources we all may need to reach our full potential. For example, the ability to record lectures and lectures being recorded for revision purposes have been highly requested by a large body of pupils. I think it’s safe to say that the previous academic year in these unprecedented times has been crazy and we were introduced into a completely new and different way of studying. This new ways has been advantageous to some students but disadvantageous to others. If I were to be the course rep, I will frequently check up on the students in the course to see what further improvements could be made to ensure everyone is getting the most out of this new system.

Furthermore, it is my understanding that there may be a lot of speculation on postgraduate opportunities and careers after this course. My ambition is to get onto the Msc Physician Associates postgraduate degree which is and I think it would be beneficial if more information on funding, interviews and skills needed for the course would be available. This won’t just be for the PA course, but maybe understanding people’s future ambitions will help them get to where they need to be by providing information based on this.

I think that the main responsibility of being a course rep is to work as a team with the pupils on our course and having good leadership skills in order to voice what we may require. Working in customer service since I was 16 has definitely helped me to develop on these necessary skills and hopefully, I will be able to utilise them to give everyone the best university experience I possible can.

I really hope you liked my manifesto and that you consider me for being your course rep. thank you for reading and good luck in your studies.
