Who Are We?

Welcome To The ARU Music Society!

We're A Platform Designed To Gather Musicians Of All Levels (Absolute Beginners To Virtuoso Geniuses) From The ARU Chelmsford Campus. It Is Our Goal To Get Musicians To Meet Each Other, Find Out What They Play/Sing, And Get Together To Form Music Bands Amongst Themselves.

Therefore, The ARU Music Society Is Made Up Of Several Small Music Bands That Practice Independently, Instead Of One Giant Music Band (Which Is Counter-Intuitive).

We'll Be Hosting Live Gig Events In The SU, As Well As, DJ Music Events And Meet & Greets, To Build Up A Community Of Musicians.

Yearly Membership Allows You To Attend All Music Events, Free Of Charge, Throughout The Year, And There'll Be Many Of Them!

If You Like The Idea Of Creating Music Bands With Your Friends, Go Out And Share The Music Society With Them!

---

Our Recommendations For Those Who Want To Play Music With Others:

  1. Identify Musicians (Professional Or Hobby) Amongst Your Friends And Course Peers.
  2. Arrange A Time, Bring Your Instruments & Have A Music Jam In Your Kitchen!
  3. Release Your Stress, Create Memories And Strengthen Your Friendships
  4. If You Gel Well, Consider Forming A Band
  5. Have Weekly Sessions And Improve Your Craft!

The Easiest Instruments To Learn:

  • Guitar
  • Ukulele
  • Piano
  • Cajon (Box Drum)
  • Percussion (Because Triangles Are Cool :D)

---

Recommendations For Drummers:

  • The Society Does Own An Electric Drum Kit But It Is Only Available During Events.
  • If You're A Drummer, We Recommend That You Learn The Cajon (Box Drum) And Create/Invest In Percussion Sets.
  • We Use A £10 Cardboard Cajon With A Small Container Half-Filled With Rice Grains To Act As A Shaker. It Works Amazingly Well For Acoustic Sessions!

---

Recommendations For Pianists:

  • If You Don't Own A Keyboard At Your Chelmsford Residence, There Is A Grand Piano In The Lord Ashcroft Building's Foyer.
  • To Access The Grand Piano, You Need To Go To Reception Or Security To Get The Key.
  • The Grand Piano Is Quite Loud So It Can Be Heard In The Library, Ground Floor. Best Times To Play Are On The Weekends On In The Evenings.
  • Remember To Put The Cover Back On The Grand Piano And Return The Key, When You've Finished Using It.
