The start of February marks the beginning of LGBTQ+ History month, and we’ve got a busy programme of events taking place.

LGBTQ+ History month highlights the brilliant diversity in the queer community through the recognition of historical figures and their achievements, celebration of progress in society and consideration of what the future has in store. It is an event for everyone to engage with, a welcome place whether you consider yourself a part of the community or not. So get together with friends, share stories and celebrate LGBTQ+ history however you want.

The theme of this year’s history month is ‘Medicine - #Underthescope’ and aims to showcase the work of LGBTQ+ people in the NHS and other healthcare environments, particularly with their extra effort over the pandemic. As well as celebrating the hard work of amazing individuals, it is also a reminder of healthcare inequalities that are still experienced by the queer community today.

The SU is running events throughout the month where you can craft, socialise and engage with the LGBTQ+ community. These include weekly pronoun badge crafting sessions, coffee mornings, a quiz, student marketplace and so much more!

Find out more about everything going on throughout the history month here.
