We recognise that nominating yourself for either a part-time or full-time position can seem quite scary, especially if you’re not used to doing this sort of thing.
But we want to assure you that you don’t have to be the most outgoing person in your class to stand for the Elections. Here is why you should take the plunge, and nominate yourself!
You want to do it!
If you want to do it, that tells you something! It means that it is something you are passionate about, and something you believe in. That means that you would be fantastic at it. So why not give it a go?
You don’t need to be overly confident.
There’s no rule saying that you have to be really outgoing to nominate yourself. If you’re nervous, that’s okay! You’ll find that most of the other candidates are nervous too. How many people can say that they’ve done this before? Very few, possibly none. So please don’t worry! Just try your best. Use your budget, try and talk to people, and get your name out there. The first time you stop someone to talk to them will be the worst, and it will get easier each time.
You don’t need to have been a Course Rep, or have any previous experience.
Again, there is no rule saying you have to have been a Course Rep, or have previous experience. You can be completely new to anything and everything, and that’s totally fine! What have you got to lose?
This isn’t a popularity contest!
Contrary to popular opinion, having loads and loads of friends doesn’t necessarily mean you will win. Sure, it will probably help. But it’s all to do with who you are as a person, what you believe in, and how strong your campaign is. You can do it completely on your own and still win – we believe in you!
You have your own unique skillset different to everyone else’s.
You have something that no one else has. You can bring that to the table, and perhaps see things a different way. You could be a breath of fresh air – so you have to nominate yourself!
