Christopher Mason is on the MSc Cyber Security course in Chelmsford and is the President of the Cyber Security Society! He is our Committee Member of the Month winner for December 2017.
Chris’ role as the President of the Cyber Security society is to oversee the running of it as well as to help organise events, talks and trips out! The society aims to provide the students and staff of Anglia Ruskin University a chance to be part of a group that enjoys various aspects of cyber security.
“The aspect I have enjoyed most is probably getting to come up with new ideas for what events to put on for the society. During this role I have gained greater communication skills. Having to speak to a variety of people of all levels has helped me to improve this skill more than I usually would have.”
Chris would like to study a PhD to further his education and then continue to work in the IT industry, specifically in Cyber Security.
“Part of being in a society enables you to meet new people and gain valuable experiences that can help broaden horizons! These experiences will help towards my future aspirations. My biggest inspiration for this role has been my own desire to grow as a person and learn more about IT and cyber security.”
“My favourite memory so far has been from our first event, where we went bowling!”
Alex Stratford, the Treasurer for the Cyber Security society, nominated Chris for the award and said this;
“Chris started the Cyber Security Society and has worked so hard to get it off the ground. He has come up with ideas, encouraged everyone to join, contacted students and staff alike to get them engaged and given talks. His enthusiasm has encouraged people to join and his interest in the subject area has enabled him to come up with some great ideas to start the committee off.”
“He is an example to other students about how to do it and all with a smile on his face while still working hard towards his Masters!”
Chris has certainly set an example towards other students and we can’t wait to see what the society gets up to next semester.
“I enjoy volunteering as it gives me a chance to do something different.”
And we have certainly enjoyed watching the Cyber Security society flourish, well done Chris!
