"Idleness is the heaviest of all oppressions." - Victor Hugo
One of the few things that makes our society different compared to others, is apart from us having a dedication to providing our members and the wider Student Union a welcoming, friendly and social environment, we also serve to act as a grounds to campaign within the university to improve the Welfare and Liberation, and act as champions to anyone who identifies as LGBT+.
Union Council is one of the few times within the year where we can do that precise change - apart from every student having speaking rights and the right to put forward a motion/policy, Committee Members can vote on matters that you care about, and be your voice on what should be done to improve your experience.
We have three policies which directly affect us as students who identify as LGBT+. These include the Gender Neutral Toilets (GNTs), Transgender Participation in Sports and the Introduction of Portfolio Reps for LGBT+, Black Students and Ethnic Minorities, Disabled Students, and Women.
It is absolutely essential that these policies are passed so that not only does the Student Union give us a proper representative position, but also that Wellbeing and Equal Opportunities are effectively available to all the members of our society, and the wider student population.
If you have yet to do so, please contact your Student Reps (Course Reps, Portfolio Reps, etc.), the very people who will be able to vote on your behalf, and attend Union Council on the 14th November to state your support for the policies!
On behalf of the LGBT+ Society Committee,
