Running in the elections
What made you run in the SU Elections?
Honestly? I ran in the elections to prove to myself that I could – and obviously be an effective part of the union for my term and make changes I wanted to see.
What was your favourite part of running in the Elections?
My favourite part of running for elections was the candidate’s breakfast!
What was most challenging?
The most challenging part of running for elections would easily be the time commitment needed.
What would you say to someone who wasn’t sure if they should run or not?
What have you got to lose?
Being an officer
What has been the best bit about being an officer?
I’ve gained skills, connections and friendships I’d of never known without being an officer.
What has been the funniest part of your SU journey so far?
The funniest part is probably when the officers have their weekly meetings – it’s just a laugh and nice to unwind whilst still being productive
What has been the most unexpected part of the role?
I think it was mostly unexpected. You realise a lot in your first few weeks and I’m not the first officer to admit you learn on the job for the majority of your term… It’s cool though.
What has been the most challenging part of being an officer?
The most challenging part of being an officer for me has probably been 9-5ing straight after my first year of university. It’s a big adjustment!
Would you do anything differently if you could start your year again? If so, what?
I probably wouldn’t change anything… realistically I wouldn’t know any more if I went back in time. I would probably just rethink the amount of midweek mashups I attended, but I’d probably do it all the same.
