Hello! My name is Natalie and I am your new Mature Students’ Rep.

Firstly I’d like to say thank you for your kind support and your votes, I didn’t think I stood a chance at such an amazing opportunity! I will be focusing all my efforts into doing the best job I can for you all, making sure you are represented fairly and more than adequately during my time in this role.

A bit about me – where do I begin?! I am 30 years old, a single parent to my son Alexander who is 11 and we live in Thetford, Norfolk. For the most part I have worked within the care sector working with children with additional needs, namely: Autism, ADHD and non-specific behavioural problems. I am a second year student here at Anglia Ruskin, studying BA English Language and Linguistics. I am also the year two representative for the above course for the second year running.

I have created a blog here highlighting some of the issues I face as a mature student, such as communitingchildcare, life/study balancing to name just a few!

There is also a space for all mature students to talk to one another and support each other and also a contact box if you would like to speak to me directly about how I can help you as your mature students' rep.

I am also in the process of setting up a Mature Students' Society and am looking for committee members to be a part of this so please do get in touch if you are interested and we can get started!

I will aim to update the blog monthly or as new issues arise. If there's something you would like me to focus on just let me know

3:36pm on 16 Feb 17 Hi Natalie - really good idea. Agree with Richard us oldies are certainly at a disadvantage sometime (especially with the maths - well for me it is) and I think a Society is exactly what we need. Why should the youngsters have all the fun. Debbie Hadley Business Information Systems 1st Year Course Rep

9:05pm on 17 Nov 16 Hi, Natalie. I think a Mature Student Society would be a great idea. The challenge us oldies face are very similar to those faced by younger students in many ways, but also often very different. I say go for it! As a Master's student commuting to Uni from north of King's Lynn, Norfolk, my time is a bit limited, but can I help? Richard Bufton. MSc in Applied Wildlife Conservation Course Rep.
