We exist to represent approximately 20,000 students at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU). We are a registered charity and company limited by guarantee. Our activities are managed and supported by 45 professional staff members and 55 part-time student staff who work for us alongside their studies. We have a turnover of approximately £2 million per annum and our activities are spread across campuses in Cambridge, Chelmsford and Peterborough.
In addition to our core purpose of being the legitimate representative body for students at ARU, we provide a range of services; academic and welfare advice, support to students running societies and volunteering opportunities in and around the campuses. We also run two bars, a restaurant and a campus shop. Whilst we play an important student representative role that sometimes sees us challenge the University, we work closely with them and support areas of delivery within their strategy.
ARU Students' Union employ students in a variety of roles from bar assistants to admin roles, or even jobs that can give you experience in your chosen area of study, such as student graphic designer. We offer the Living Wage and full training for all roles, and we also understand that there are times throughout the academic year when you will need the flexibility to focus more on your academic commitments.
In addition to our paid jobs, we also recruit volunteers to help us to support the student community at key times in the year. SU Heroes play a key role within our student staff team, welcoming and supporting new and returning students.
So, if working for the SU sounds like something you'd like to know more about, fill in the survey below and we'll let you know when we're recruiting!

Students' Union Heroes are a team of ARU students we recruit for each new academic year to support and welcome new and returning students to Anglia Ruskin. Heroes help us to welcome and move-in students and offer information about the services of the Students’ Union. The role is integral to students’ first impressions of ARU and the Students’ Union and as an SU Hero, you can make sure that students have a great first experience of university life.
The majority of shifts for this role will take place during the welcome periods (September and January) but there will be further flexible opportunities for shifts throughout the year. This role can be taken on alongside other student staff roles at the SU and at ARU. Please note: some aspects of this role may be amended in line with social distancing regulations.
