Wimpole Estate Volunteer Roles

This opportunity takes place on 12 Feb 2024 Closing date for applications is 31 Dec.

We are looking for volunteers to support our work across all parts of this beautiful, bustling, working estate. We currently have opportunities in:
  1. Visitor Welcome: You will provide a warm welcome and help all visitors enjoy their day. You’ll also help us provide a personalised thank you, leaving people with a positive lasting impression.
  2. Retail Volunteer - Retail assistants assist in the shop with sales, stock control and the efficient running of the shop.  We are particularly looking for volunteers on Saturdays & Sundays
  3. House Experience Volunteer: Based in Wimpole Hall, you will provide a warm welcome to visitors, answer questions, and help protect the interiors and collections through security and fire evacuation procedures. There will be opportunities to learn more about the history of the house, but this is not a requirement when you start.
  4. Easter Experience Volunteer Are you looking for an egg-citing volunteering opportunity this Easter? Why not “hop” along to Wimpole? This is our busiest time, and we need volunteers to welcome visitors to the House from 23rd March to 14th April 2024. You do not need to be a historian – just full of the joys of Spring! Bunny ears are not compulsory (although you can if you want!)
  5. Events Volunteers work with the Programming and Partnerships team to help deliver a variety of events, activities, and projects throughout the year and across the Wimpole Estate. This is a highly varied role that changes with seasons. You could be: making and putting up decorations for periods such as Christmas and Easter, running activities for children and families during school holidays, stewarding events and running stalls. You would not need to be involved with all aspects of the event; you will be able to choose shifts according to your own interests and strengths. This role will suit you if you are creative and crafty, handy and resourceful, friendly and welcoming
  6. Facilties Volunteer - Wimpole is a beautiful place enjoyed by 325k visitors a year – and we need dedicated and passionate Facilities volunteers to help keep it in tip-top condition. The role involves a range of maintenance tasks across the estate, which might include basic carpentry, painting and decorating, restoration of outdoors furniture, site clearance, general repairs, and painting fences and railings. There is also a chance to get involved with the historic restoration projects like re-pointing our 19th Century Walled Garden wall (full training will be given) and the option of becoming part of our Green Team, exploring new and sustainable ways to use our resources and delivering innovative green projects
  7. Food and Beverage: We are looking for additional volunteers to support with hosting and table clearing. If you are an individual who loves to be outside and delights in engaging with our visitors, we would love to hear from you
  8. Visitor Operations Volunteers: Based ‘on the ground’ with Visitor Experience at the forefront of your mind, you will be looking at all aspects of the visitor journey, whether that be ensuring that bins are emptied or standing at a busy junction giving directions and answering questions.
