Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis Volunteering Roles

This opportunity is ongoing, with no end date.

Pulmonary fibrosis is a devastating disease that causes stiffening or scarring of the lungs making it difficult for oxygen to pass from the lungs to the body. The disease has a huge impact on physical and emotional wellbeing. At Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis our work aims to provide information and support to people affected by pulmonary fibrosis, enabling them to make informed choices about their physical and emotional wellbeing, and to help them live well for longer.

Currently active volunteering roles:

Befriending role- Online and At Home

We are looking for volunteers to be befrienders, providing emotional support over the phone to people affected by Pulmonary Fibrosis.

What’s involved?

  • Provide emotional support to people with Pulmonary Fibrosis (PF) and their carers
  • To signpost people to local and national support, such as support meetings, specialist centres, APF website, other organisations
  • To highlight and refer to the APF support line when people need expert advice
  • A commitment to keep up to date with PF related information
  • Attend volunteer support meetings and other development events identified.

This Role will suit me if I:

  • Have a warm, welcoming, and empathetic manner
  • Have good listening and communications skills
  • Have an understanding of PF and its impact on families, or a willingness to learn
  • Understand the need for confidentiality and the importance of data protection and safeguarding 
  • Have access to the internet, a telephone and good computer skills
  • Am able to assess and seek advice from APF when extra support is needed.

How Flexible is the role?

Volunteers work from home for approximately 2-4 hours a week. We usually ask volunteers to commit to volunteering for a minimum of 4-6 months.

What sort of Training/Induction will I receive?

Before you can begin your role, we will need an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS). You’ll also be inducted into the role, and as part of this you’ll be able to take part in training online. Ongoing training opportunities will be provided, and volunteers will be expected to attend appropriate development training sessions. 

Admin Volunteer- Fundraising/ Office based role (Peterborough)

We are looking for volunteers to help us process orders, pick, pack and provide excellent customer service to all our customers who visit our online shop and help us fundraise.

What’s involved?

Depending on the needs of the online store and your interests, you may be involved in the following:

  • Selecting, preparing, and sending out APF Store items in line with the APF’s guidelines
  • Supporting to dispatch out seasonal services materials
  • Providing excellent customer service
  • Answering emails and telephone calls regarding orders
  • Sending out merchandise to fundraisers
  • Stocktaking
  • Photographing stock and uploading images
  • Ordering in new merchandise
  • Research into new merchandise that can be added to the stores collection

This Role will suit me if I have:

  • Good working knowledge of Outlook and basic data input
  • An interest in online retail and customer service.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and under own initiative.
  • Willingness to learn

You’ll be inducted into the role, and as part of this you’ll be able to take part in training. Ongoing training opportunities will be provided, and volunteers will be expected to attend appropriate development training sessions. 

Admin Volunteer- Office based role (Peterborough)

We need volunteers to ensure the smooth running of our office. This role will involve working with the current Charity administrators to assist them in offering administrative support to the whole team.

What’s involved?

  • Answering office calls
  • Provide support line cover when needed
  • Collecting/sending post
  • Helping teams with tasks (i.e., data input, mailing lists, stationery requirements)
  • Stationary checks and ordering
  •  Assist with donations and donation platforms
  •  Scanning any letters that come in for the team
  • Scheduling Thursday training sessions

This Role will suit me if I have:

  • Good administrative and organisation skills
  • The ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in all aspects of your work
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Experience of databases would be an advantage
  •  Ability to work well as part of a team and under own initiative
  • Willingness to learn
  • Available 2-5 hours per week with flexibility
