A Chelmsford based Community Group supporting homeless people and rough sleepers with essential items such as sleeping bags, tents etc as well as lobbying Chelmsford City Council for systemic change

Street Support Volunteer

This opportunity is ongoing, with no end date.

We have an amazing new Chelmsford Community Project, which we are seeking help for from volunteers at ARU. It will consist of helping to provide crucial information to help us to develop and launch 'Street Support' which is website and app.

Currently there is no single source listing the support available for homeless people and rough sleepers in the city. Often people have to rely on word of mouth and too often vulnerable people are missing out on opportunities to get help. This could be food banks, advice services, health provisions, financial help and much more. Implementing ‘Street Support’ will create an invaluable database of those offering help to homeless people/rough sleepers etc in the local area and make this information accessible to those that need it most.

Street Support has been adopted by various cities throughout England very successfully. We are now bringing it to Chelmsford and the help urgently needed is with basic research and inputting of data onto the website portal. The project we think will initially take about 1 month to have enough data uploaded onto the website to go live. No special skills are required other than basic IT skills and an interest in homelessness and rough sleeping. The research will be via internet, email and potentially phone calls. There might be some longer-term assistance needed in updating information.
