IT Support Volunteer

This opportunity is ongoing, with no end date.

As an IT Support Volunteer you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of hub computer systems and provide IT support for volunteers. Becoming an IT Support Volunteer with Samaritans is a great opportunity for anyone who wants a career within IT. This role will be based from Anglia Ruskin University Cambridge Campus. As IT Support Volunteer, you are more than welcome to become a Volunteer Listener too.


  • Monitoring and maintaining computer systems and networks
  • Troubleshooting system and network problems and diagnosing and solving or referring on any hardware/ software faults as appropriate
  • Providing support to all volunteers where needed, including procedural documentation
  • Supporting the roll-out of new hardware or software
  • Setting up new users’ accounts and profiles and dealing with password issues
  • Liaising with Central Office as appropriate about any continuing IT problems, where continuing IT problems in the branch would result in prolonged loss of service
