Law Society (Cambridge) - Moot Competition 3rd Round Winners!

Law Society (Cambridge) win the 3rd round of the UK Law Students Associations Mooting Competition!

Thursday 9th February saw Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge host Cambridge University in the third round of the United Kingdom Law Students Association's Mooting competition. Cambridge University's law school is currently ranked 2nd in the UK and 4th in the world by The Times Higher Education; thus, a true David and Goliath local derby!

The students' were judged by Simon Spence QC, a highly regarded criminal barrister from Red Lion Chambers who was appointed to Queen's Counsel in 2009.  The scenario set for the teams was based on a taxi driver, the man had his licence revoked by the DVLA due to his health condition's of diabetes and psychosis.  The DVLA claimed he would be a danger to the public if he were to drive.

We represented the taxi driver and our team,  Meriam Altaf and Hameeda Hussani, had to not only understand the complexity of the law but the complexity of the health conditions too.  The ladies delivered a thorough argument that flowed perfectly.  They stayed calm throughout and answered the judges questions with great knowledge and confidence.  It was the depth of their research and their clear understanding of the health conditions that carried them through to the quarter finals!

A truly remarkable victory for Anglia Ruskin University!

It appears Cambridge has another University in this town!

Special thanks goes to Gabriele Saba from The Faculty of Medical Science and to Wyomie Redford from the Law School for their research and support to the team.
