Avinash Miriyam your President 2020/21
Hello, my name is Avinash I am your Students' Union President this year; I am currently studying Master’s in film and Television Production and last year while studying I was course rep to my class, formed the Indian Society and led the society as a Indian Society President. Within the next five years I would like to return to my study topic, and be working in the Film Industry.
What does being a President mean? Well it means I am employed full-time at the Students' Union to represent your voice at ARU. I feedback your praise, concerns and improvments at Univeristy meetings, directly to the VC of ARU, in important desision making boards and more. I also run key campaigns that I pitched to you during last years Election.
What are your campaigns/ what would you like to achieve for students this year?
As a student representative I would like to develop effective communication between student’s union and students through various levels of student representors by utilizing social media in an efficient way. I would like to prioritize my time by one hour for students’ walk-ins to speak to me directly in a week. I would like to take the help of mental health society and Psychological students to work on well-being of students. I would like to work on students’ issues regularly to make Anglia Ruskin University a better place to live and educate to the best of my ability.
Why are you passionate about this project idea?
As a student or course rep I feel there is a lot of between student, student union and University. As a course rep I feel course rep is the president for his course. So I would like to decentralise the communication in various levels to reach students in maximum number through course rep.
As a student I have gone through loneliness and stressed in the initial days of university to cope with the changes I must make myself. So, I decided to conduct regular sessions on with the help of involving charities, societies, people and students.
What made you stand to be an Officer?
Visa extension and monthly Salary for an international student (just for laughs). I love talking with fellow students in that process I came through various issues of students facing. I decided to do something about it, and I contacted student’s union they said to run in elections. To win in elections we need to be popular. So, I formed Indian society and with the help of International office and student’s union organised many events to reach the greatest number of students. This takes me one year and helps me win in elections Now I need every student advice and support to work on students’ issues in a better way as a team. I feel it is our university and it is our responsibility to make a better to live and learn. So, welcome all students.
