Cavya Antony - President 2020/21
What are your campaigns/ what would you like to achieve for students this year?
1. I am currently working on implementing an EDI training for all students at ARU. Our university is one of the most diverse, and we can proudly say we study with so many students coming from across the globe. Racism, microaggressions, sexism has been a constant topic of concern but educating students to be patient and accepting of each other is equally important. Every student has got the same right for education and giving the right experience for everyone is our responsibility as an institution. I believe every student after graduating should become compassionate, respectful, and kind towards humanity. Isn’t that the correct use of education?
2. Providing additional support for the international students and to make students are aware about the current services provided by the university: As an international student myself, I want to make sure all the international students coming to ARU receives the same level of education and experience as anyone else. It’s tough on any students when they come for higher education, and I want to make sure all students who require additional support are given those support so that make the best out of their time at ARU.
Why are you passionate about this project idea?
I am a student representative and I want to make sure all the students get to enjoy their time at university. Making sure the environment around every student is healthy is so important (mental environment). Any bad incidents can affect students’ mental health. It’s hard to remain positive when your mental health is affected by the people around you or sometimes when things don’t go well around you. With my role as SU President I really want all the students to use their potential and to maximize their skills and have a very positive environment around them to help them grow.
What's your ultimate ARU moment?
I remember the first time when I went to iCentre to collect my ID and BRP card I was over the moon. Just to get a chance to study at ARU and making that dream possible was highly overwhelming. I had walked in and around campus just to make myself acquainted with the buildings. I just couldn’t believe I will be studying my Master’s at ARU.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
Tough one.... Hmm I guess I always do things which I feel passionate about. Like this SU President role. I get to make real difference. Wherever you are I feel you should make your presence known. Jobs and places you live at, and work can change but I’m sure in 5 years down the lane I will be truly doing something which I completely resonate with. Oops I forgot to mention about financial stability…I guess that’s equally important. So, to sum it up, a job which pays really well and where I continue to MAKE A DIFFERENCE every day.

Tell us something not many people know about you:
Well, I am an open book, 5 mins chatting with me you will get to know that. So, anyone wants to prove me wrong just come and have a chat with me.
If you had a super power what would it be??
I always wanted this superpower…if I could get the ability to read people’s mind. An ability to anticipate what people are thinking GOOD or BAD would be just great. I was obsessed with vampire diaries at one point of my life. (Again no judging …)
