We're proud to announce that this year, for the first time, we have achieved the Gold award in the NUS Green Impact Students’ Union awards scheme.
117 unions took part in the accreditation scheme, contributing to a total of 5,632 sustainability actions completed through the Green Impact toolkit.
Our Executive Officers and staff were determined to achieve the high standard award.
Achieving the Gold award has been the culmination of many year’s work to embed sustainability into the organisation.
As a result, sustainability appears in all aspects of the Students’ Union activities ensuring that both students and staff are engaged, including:
- staff induction
- course rep and clubs and society training
- community engagement
- events planning.
In the feedback from the Green Impact audit, the auditor made the following comments:
'Anglia Ruskin Students' Union has demonstrated a consistently high level of commitment to sustainability through the Green Impact Students’ Union scheme over many years.
It’s great to see Sammi Whittaker, the SU President, championing sustainability this year across the university as well as seeing a strong working relationship between the Students’ Union and the university on programmes like Responsible Futures.'
Following the completion of over 160 criteria, ARU Students’ Union achieved higher than the national average points on almost every category, and overall increased the total amount of points by 7% over last year.
Our Executive Officers will collect the Gold award at the prestigious Students’ Union 2016 awards ceremony on 7 July.
