NOVEMBER

Hi Everybody,

This is one of your newly elected postgraduate research reps here. I'm Jessica Ruth Austin and firstly I would like to thank you for electing me again for this position for ALSS (which I also held in the 2015/2016 academic year). If you are in the ALSS faculty feel free to email me anytime, and if you aren't I am happy to get your emails and pass them on to relevant people. As postgraduates many of us do not live in Cambridge, and many of us distance learn. Therefore I aim to make sure that I am available my email and by phone as a priority. If you are unsure about what research reps can do for you, I have provided a brief summary of our some of services below:

  • If you are having issues on your course, perhaps you feel you are being treated differently than other students or you are having difficulties with your supervisor we are available for consultation
  • If you feel that there is an issue on campus that is making it harder to complete your postgraduate degree, such as lack of faciliities, unavailability of free computer software, you disagree with the price of printing etc. we can campaign to try and fix these problems on your behalf.
  • We attend commitee meetings and can take your feedback directly to the faculty and if the issue cannot be fixed at these meetings we as course reps are able to take it to the larger committees.

I am always happy to answer any questions on the ARU research society page as well.
