Candidate for the position of MA English Literature - Course Rep

DEMI SMITH

After starting out thinking that maybe university, and Lit in particular, weren't right for me and coming out the other end of my BA loving it enough to come back for more, I hope to win the role of Rep in order to inspire that same sort of confidence and drive in current ARU students.

I have a wealth of knowledge of both my course and the university, as well as the workings of the Students Union, so I will be happy doing any Rep activities from Freshers Fair, to public speaking, to listening to the concerns of students and bringing them up in meetings.

I feel like I would be a good Representative of an MA English Literature Student at ARU because I know that learning here is done both inside and outside of the lecture theatre and can take more forms than just a seminar.

If elected as course rep I am planning on holding more regular Q&A sessions with students in order to find out what they want from their course, and I would have a particular focus on accessibility of learning, such as making sure classrooms and resources are all accessible by people of all abilities. Furthermore, I would lobby for ease of communication between staff and students, and clearer, more concise assessment instructions so that nobody is left in the dark and has the ability to perform to the best of their ability.
