LAURA O'BYRNE

I want to make sure that the course content is of a high standard, so that we can go to placement with the confidence, background knowledge and skills to excel and impress our mentors. The better prepared we are for placement, the better we will perform, which will increase the likelihood of us being offered employment at the end of it. Together we need to support eachother and make sure that the course is shaping us all into excellent new physiologists, and if we have any concerns that we feel underprepared or are struggling, we shouldn't be afraid to speak up about it. Remember, we're paying a LOT for this degree, so we need to get the best out of it!

Some additions I would like to see to our course is more information or maybe guest lectures focused on the next steps we can take after we complete our degree, so we can have a full picture of all the possible areas we could choose to specialise in as we climb the career ladder. Whether it be well-known specialisms like pacing, echocardiography, cath lab; or ones that aren't mentioned as much, such as how we could go into research or education. I think it would also be great if we had the opportunity to attend trips or events throughout the year, such as going to cardiology conferences so that we can keep up to date with the latest developments in our field. These are just a couple of ideas I have that I believe would make our course better and more interesting; if you choose me as your rep I would love to hear all your ideas in how to improve our course, and put them forward to make a change! :)
