MISS SAFIYA MAWUSI

Hi, I’m Safiya Mawusi, but everyone calls me Safii. I am standing to be the representative for Psychology and Criminology, which I am currently in my 2nd year of study. I am also the president of the Boxing Society, (which of course very biasedly, I love). I believe that there should be a representative for each group or course that needs it - to have someone to speak up for them and to enable change.

I’m not going to lie, I’ve not done anything like this since about year 9 when I was my class rep, but that was many years ago, so I’m not sure if that even counts! Even so, I believe change is important, especially when it’s beneficial, and sometimes, it allows the people with little voices to have a platform too. Our university has only become a better one because of our voices being heard through our reps and I genuinely believe that I will be able to speak on your behalf and push the changes that you need.

I could sit here and type all of the issues that I’m going to change, but when I hear politicians do that, it’s not the thing that makes me believe in them, because quite frankly, how do they know what we want to change without first asking the people who need change, and half the time they can’t or don’t even change it. So instead, I’ll just say that I’m here as your resource and will wait to hear what you would like to see change because being a rep is about what we all want, not just me.

University is supposed to be a place where we learn and grow but should also be fun, so if we can make that happen, then at least we can look back and say that we went to a uni where we had an awesome time, but also went to a uni that cared about what we wanted and we made it into the university that it is.

Peace & love, see you at uni!
