ADE ADESIDA

About Me

My name is Adebimpe Adesida (pronounced Ah-day-beam-pay ah-da-she-dar). I was raised in an environment that emphasized the importance of helping others, and ever since I was a teenager, I have made it a personal mission to be of service to the people around me.

I see myself as an agent of change, knowing firsthand how selfless service has impacted the places I have worked, the relationships I have built, and the communities I have been a part of.

This belief in selfless service has been pivotal to my decision to run for the office of Vice President.

My core values are:

  1. Service: I constantly seek ways to add value to the people around me. By taking on this role, I can extend my reach and be of help to many more students.

  2. Inclusivity: I know what it means to be the odd one out, and it has motivated me to create a welcoming and supportive environment everywhere I go.

  3. Diversity: Coming from Nigeria, I have enjoyed the unique beauty that comes from a rich cultural tapestry. I look forward to advocating for initiatives that promote cross-cultural understanding and appreciation in our faculty.

  4. Excellence: “What is worth doing”, they say “is worth doing well.” I am willing to do all it takes to ensure that I do right by the students of this faculty.

My Promises

As a proud Nigerian and a representative of our diverse international community within the Faculty of Science and Engineering, I am honoured to present my manifesto for the role of Student Union Vice President.

As a Student Ambassador, I've proudly served as a university representative, leading campus tours, facilitating events, and sharing my personal experiences with prospective students. Through outreach programs and community engagement, I've helped promote ARU and helped in fostering a welcoming environment for new students

I believe that this has enriched my life and has given me a unique perspective on ways to further support our student community. Through dynamic collaboration, I intend to:

  • Organize cultural exchange events, festivals, and workshops celebrating the diverse backgrounds and traditions within our faculty.

  • Advocate for multicultural student spaces offering resources and fostering connections.

  • Partner with international student organizations to create a welcome program for new students.

2. Introduce Robust Support Systems:

  • Work with the university to establish dedicated language tutors for international students struggling with English.

  • Partner with mental health services to offer counselling sessions in multiple languages.

  • Advocate for streamlined visa application processes and resources for immigration concerns.

3. Build Bridges and Foster Connections:

  • Launch a mentorship program connecting international students with upper-class students from similar backgrounds.

  • Organize international peer support groups to foster friendships and combat loneliness.

  • Facilitate collaborative research projects across cultural and disciplinary boundaries.

4. Advocate for Change:

  • Hold regular town hall meetings to gather student feedback and address concerns.

  • Actively lobby university administration to implement policies promoting fairness, equality, and inclusivity for all students.

  • Work with international student organizations to ensure their voices are heard in decision-making processes.

5. Unleashing our Collective Potentials:

  • Expand tutoring and study group options tailored to specific academic challenges faced by international students.

  • Partner with industry and organizations to create internship opportunities for both domestic and international students.

  • Advocate for career development workshops on resume writing, interview skills, and navigating the job market.

6. Lead with Transparency, Trust, and Action:

  • Maintain an open and accessible communication channel through regular email updates, social media engagement, and office hours.

  • Conduct surveys and focus groups to actively seek student input on key issues and initiatives.

  • Operate with integrity and accountability, providing regular updates on progress and addressing concerns transparently.
