Candidate for the position of Vice President (Business and Law)

THE MANIFESTO OF OMOTOLA DAIRO, AN ASPIRANT FOR THE POST OF VICE PRESIDENT IN THE FACULTY OF BUSINESS AND LAW; ANGLIA RUSKIN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS UNION CAMBRIDGE CAMPUS.

 

 

My name is Omotola Dairo, an ARU student of M.Sc. in International Business,  Cambridge campus 

 

What makes me a good candidate: 

    •    6 years in higher education: 6years as a home student showing consistency with lots of practical experience and fresh ideas.

    •    I am passionate and dedicated to contributing positively to a student union that has the interests of students at heart.                                

 

I want to create an ARU which is more enjoyable, more sustainable and more inclusive. A students association that listens to the voice of students and acts on what you ask for.

Our students association plays a huge role in our university experience. Although we are here to work hard, we mustn’t forget to play hard too! As Vice President, I would create a fun and exciting student union which actively engages students.

 

I want to improve the quality of services: from student living, support services and representation, to entertainments and food and drinks served in our union.

If elected, I will push for:

 

Events for everyone!

·        More festivals. (Laser quest, foam parties, beer festivals, live bands, big name acts...)

Let's make ARU a fun place to be!

 

 MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING

    •    Advocate for increase in the number of full-time counsellors and student buddies.

 

    •    A prompt response to mental health needs.

 

EDUCATION SUPPORT

To create an environment where students needs are paramount in education service delivery by:

    •    Students as partners in their education

    •    No hidden cost

    •    Support for Widening Access, Mature and international students

    •    Encourage more participation of the students in sporting activities through the direct involvement of ARU student union.

    •    Involve the Union more in some academic enhancing resources and policies of the University 

    •    Create more avenues to gather and utilize innovative opinions from the students.

 

ASSESSMENT AND FEEDBACK

Students feedback should be provided in accordance with a set of constructive standards to ensure that the feedback students receive is fundamental to improving students learning.

 

BOOST EMPLOYABILITY

A liberal education where students gain the confidence needed to take initiative, solve problems, and formulate ideas and develop skills.

 

    •    Mock interviews, public speaking, personal development.

    •     Putting teaching and learning at the heart of the institution with more project-based learning.

 

My Leadership

•    During my tertiary institution, I organized programs that encouraged self-employment where I injected skills acquisition scheme in order to reduce the rate of unemployment.

 

•    As the welfare youth leader of my local church, I saw the need to extend helping hands to orphanage homes at the age of 20, Hence I organized a Non-Governmental organization[NGO] program whereby we source for partners and voluntary donors to the program. I worked with partners and other network donors to supply raw food, clothes, mattresses, pillow, drinks and toiletries and some reading tables and chairs for conducive learning in their class rooms. We have been to over 25 orphanage homes within and outside my community. 

 

•    Also, as a president of my department [Plant Breeding and Seed Technology] while in the university, I organized a training program that taught orphaned and disabled people on skills acquisition for two weeks.

 

•    During my national youth service Corp in My home country Nigeria,I was the president of health and sanitation where I had lead a project on health and sanitation where I had lead a project to junior secondary school at Ogba, Lagos state and injected more knowledge of puberty such as menstruation and how it could  change the live of every young girl.  

 

You can be confident that as Vice President for business and law, I will be committed to my role and stand up for what I believe in.

I am passionate and determined, and would like the opportunity to create the student union that you want and deserve!

 

Your union should be the place you know you’re going to get the best service, value and representation. I will ensure that ARU gives you a world class student experience.
