CARLA STRAW

Hey everyone!

I'm Carla, a 2nd year Policing and Criminal Justice student, and I believe that I would make a great woman's rep.

I feel very strongly about equality. No sex or gender should be at a disadvantage, and there should be equal opportunities for all. Unfortunately, we don't live in such a society. That's why it is essential that while at uni, we have a strong female community, where we can build each other up and support each over through all our endeavours. It's vital that while getting an education, women can feel safe, confident and ambitious. So when we get our degrees, we can go into the world with careers that have no glass ceilings, and an attitude to conquer all.

One of the things I would focus on as woman's rep would be to raise more awareness about the sexual violence services around the university. An example being the Sexual Violence Liason Service. I also think that these crucial resources should be signposted more, especially in the student vilage.

I am known well at the Students Union. I spend a lot of time there, volunteering, studying, working, and I have a great relationship with the staff. I was course rep last year, so i have no problem expressing concerns and helping to make change. Having this experience would help my effectiveness as a representative being, I already have an understanding of the university.

Most importantly, let's be proud of being a woman and embracing what we have to offer the world.

:)
