ELLA BRUCE

I have loved my time here at Anglia Ruskin and have been so proud to see how far we, as a community and an institution have come in those 3 short years. Though it is clear to me that with everything, there is still more we can do. It is important to recognise the progress we have made and see how we can improve even further so that everyone feels welcome, excepted, confident and safe. If you elect me to be your AHSS vice President I will aim to improve;

 the communication between student and staff on important matters as small as timetabling all the way to dissertations and deadlines.

I will aim to increase the awareness of student and staff safety on campus at all times.

From my experience at our university I know that it is not only the first year that students need support in such a big change. For many the 3rd year is just as stressful and difficult to adjust to. I want to make sure that we have a detailed support system for those that are in their 3rd year.

Following from this, I think would like to increase the link between undergraduate and postgraduate. We should be encouraging students to continue their studies with us and further their time with us. I want to make sure that every student finishes their undergraduate with the confidence and knowledge that they know what they are going forward to do.

Something that is also very important to me is the accessibility of the campus, all university websites and apps and the class content. As a disabled woman with an invisible illness I understand the difficulty in feeling like you have to explain yourself when something isn’t accessible. I want to make it so no one has to feel that way within our university and start to spread awareness and understanding and break the silence on disability in the younger generations.

I want to make sure that everyone, no matter who they are, no matter how they identify make the most of their time at university and that they can spend that time knowing that they are heard and that they feel safe all the time they are with us.

I appreciate every single vote and am so pleased that we as a university and union have the opportunity to stand with so many other people to make a lasting difference for others to follow.
