Luca Girardi

Hi I’m Luca, I’m currently studying marine biology. I was LGBT+ rep last year and after taking some time out from studying I’m so excited to be running for the position again!

I want to be LGBT+ rep to foster an environment in university where everyone is free to be who they are, away from hate, discrimination and bullying. I’m looking forward to, if elected, working closely with the trans rep, societies and other executive committee members to create more gender neutral bathrooms in areas with a lack of them and highlight the need for them. Alongside this I want to raise awareness for trans and non binary identities and help educate people on what this means and why it’s so important to support students, now more than ever, who don’t identify within the binary.

On top of this I want to promote intersectionality within the community , and provide support for LGBTQ+ people of colour and women, I hope having this position with let me create a network that allows them to raise any issues they face.

As well as this, I want to work to de-stigmatise things such as HIV and PrEP and increase access to testing in a way that allows people to feel comfortable and relaxed when doing so. I’d love to do this by working with charities, such as Terrance Higgins Trust who’s goal is the educate on HIV and other STIs that people may not understand fully.

If elected I’m going to strive to create and comfortable, enjoyable and safe environment for all members of the LGBTQ+ community. I hope I’ll receive your vote and look forward to the opportunity of working with you all!
