Hi there! My name is Becca, and I’m currently a Master’s student in History at ARU Cambridge. I have been here for 3 and a half years now, and a course rep for 2 of those years, and have grown to love studying here. I am hoping to stay on and study a PhD as of next year.

As your Vice President for the AHSS Faculty, I would focus on the mental health strategies that the university equips, and see where the university can improve, and if there are any gaps in the support that we as a university give to students to support them during their time here. I know I have struggled immensly with my mental health whilst studying here, and I feel that although the university has services to help students, they aren’t very well known. I would like to improve the student knowledge of this and really get out there how much support this university offers. Furthermore, I would like to work with the student support team to make sure that everything we offer is enough in terms of what students need, and work towards making our university even better for mental health support.

One other idea that I would love to see become part of Anglia Ruskin, is more history month events. As a historian, I have loved the implementing of Black History Month, and LGBT+ History Month, but within these I would love to add more talks with the historians and students within our university, on these incredibly important historical topics, but also for women’s history, and disabled peoples’ history. There are so many influential women in British and world history that changed our world, and shining a light on these women is so important in a way for equality for everyone. I would love to try and implement talks (sort of like mini conferences, but less formal) for students and staff to come and learn about different aspects of history such as those I have mentioned.

I have so many other ideas, and I hope that you feel I would be up to the task of being your Vice President! Thanks for reading!
