SolidariTee are an international, student led registered charity, who aim to raise awareness of the refugee crisis and offer grants to NGOs working to provide legal aid to refugees in Greece

SolidariTee Volunteer

This opportunity takes place between 21 Nov 2023 and 21 Jun 2024

SolidariTee is an international charity run and led entirely by volunteers who are students and young people. We're working to make lasting change in the way refugees and other people forced to flee persecution and violence are treated, through a combination of awareness-raising, advocacy, and fundraising for grassroots NGOs. What makes SolidariTee unique is the fact that we have no paid staff, meaning our overheads are shockingly low. We currently work with 8 NGO partners who provide vital legal aid and mental health services to refugees and asylum seekers in Greece, raising around £100,000 annually. As a member of your university team, you will be responsible for uniting your team and the wider student community to support refugee rights on your campus. University teams will be responsible for organising events over the year (from panel discussions, to quizzes, to bake sales ... whatever you like!) selling t-shirts ('SolidariTees!'), and raising awareness via social media. There will be plenty of opportunities to learn more about refugee issues, as well as acquire pertinent skills such as event organisation and advocacy. No prior experience is needed - just enthusiasm - so all are welcome! Please sign up at https://airtable.com/shr0J13LXmbx5I2xc and visit our website https://www.solidaritee.org.uk for more information, or contact central@solidaritee.org.uk if you have any questions! We can’t wait to hear from you!

Team Lead- As SolidariTee Team Lead, you’ll be responsible for overseeing all of SolidariTee’s activities within your uni team. In addition to building and supporting your team, you’ll set the direction for the year across awareness raising, fundraising, and t-shirt sales.

This role suits someone who is willing to take on responsibility for setting the vision for the team, and to dedicate a good chunk of their time (~ 3 hours a week) to building SolidariTee’s presence on campus, but you definitely won’t be in it alone. Team Leads work with a strong executive team of Events Leads, Publicity Lead, and T-Shirts Lead, and receive 1:1 support and guidance from our central team.

Recruitment and management of your team form a large part of this role in addition to overseeing events organisation and t-shirt sales fundraising, so this role is for you if you enjoy leading people and can set the tone for SolidariTee on campus, conveying a passion for the cause and a sensitive approach to discussions about refugee rights.

Tasks:
- Working with Events Leads to organise a term card of events on campus
- Working with Publicity Leads to plan and produce social media content
- Working with T-Shirt Leads to manage stock and drive demand for t-shirts
- Recruiting and building a team
- Attending weekly catch ups with your Regional Manager
- Organising and leading monthly whole team meetings

Events Lead & Officers- Members of the events division, coordinated by the Events Lead, work together to host a number of events every term. Each event is generally focussed either on raising money for our NGOs, raising awareness about refugee rights and global displacement, or often both at the same time!

Past events have ranged from panels and conferences to bake sales, sports matches, black tie jazz nights, raffles and fashion shows. These roles would suit anyone who is imaginative, enjoys bringing people together, and has concrete ideas for how they want to get SolidariTee’s message across via events.

Tasks:
- Handling logistics relating to events, like liaising with venues, organising tech, and inviting speakers or performers
- Building relationships with local businesses to establish fundraising partnerships
- Researching and learning about global displacement
- Researching, emailing, and co-ordinating with relevant speakers
- Working with local refugee organisations to host outreach events
- Co-ordinating with Publicity Lead to promote events in good time
- Co-ordinating with T-Shirt team to organise sales at events
- Managing accounting for money fundraised

T-shirt Fundraising Lead & Officers- The T-Shirt Lead and Officers play a vital role in raising funds and increasing SolidariTee’s opportunities for awareness-raising on campus. T-shirts are in our name after all, and they’re a big part of what unites us as a charity and what makes us unique. They’re a visible show of solidarity and powerful conversation starters for talking about forced displacement and art’s role in advocacy.

We want t-shirt sales to be a group effort, so the whole team can get involved, but someone to manage the stock would be great!

Tasks:
- Talking to people about SolidariTee’s work and how t-shirts help us to do it, as well as about ethical production, slow fashion, and refugee artwork
- Selling tees to within the student community, family networks, and wider local area
- Taking responsibility for careful recording of stock, sales, and money raised
- Attending team events and running a t-shirt stall
- Seeking out other events on campus and in the city at which to sell tees
- Partnering with local thrift shops and other stores to get SolidariTees sold
- Organising ‘Stand in SolidariTee’ partnerships with local sports teams and societies
- Running pop-up stalls on hotspots around campus to sell tees to students and talk about SolidariTee’s work
- Working with Publicity Lead to co-ordinate social media promotion on the regional social media page as well as the team’s personal timelines
- (Lead) Managing and storing stock, co-ordinating tee collections with T-Shirt Officers, and overseeing transfers of tee sales money.

Publicity Lead & Officers- The Publicity Lead, working with a small team of Publicity Officers, is responsible for overseeing communications and campaigns on campus alongside publicity officers and, most importantly, leading the running of the regional team social media page. You would also play an important role with building your team and driving its activities by working with other teams to advertise their events, campaigns, and the t-shirts themselves.

This role would suit someone who has creative ideas for social media content and an aesthetic eye, who is also willing to research topics to design posts which educate people about global refugee crises in a sensitive, appropriate way.

Tasks:
- Research on refugee issues for infographic series
- Creating social media posts on Canva design software with central team support
- Proof-reading and editing social media graphics and captions
- Co-ordinating t-shirt photoshoots on campus
- Co-ordinating with Events team to publicise events and improve attendance
- Publicising campaigns and fundraisers
- Improving traction on social media pages (e.g. increasing numbers of likes/follows).
