Michael Osei-Bonsu is a third year Quantity Surveying student and President of the MMA and self-defence Society.

Through his role, Michael helps to book rooms for the society classes, organises coaches to lead the sessions and has created a plan to help the society become more sustainable.

Gareth Thomson, the Societies and Activities Coordinator in Chelmsford, says:

“Mike has been instrumental in setting up two different classes for students to attend; beginners and advanced. This is making the society more accessible for students who have previous with martial arts and those who are taking it up for the first time. Mike has demonstrated a shining example of listening to his society members’ needs and implementing an achievable plan to help the society build.”

Michael is looking to become a Quantity Surveyor after he graduates and he recognises his role within the society as valuable experience to learn transferrable skills which will help in his future career:

“I’ve learnt to always communicate what you need. It makes it easier for everyone to know what is going on. Being able to coordinate activities within my society would give me the skills to be able to work well in a team.”

Thanks Michael for helping to provide the opportunity for students to join the society and feel part of a growing community whilst having fun and enhancing their University experience.
