When all your friends are going home for Christmas, but you’re staying here until trimester two begins, it can make you feel a little lonely. Here’s a few ideas on how to cope if you’re staying at uni over the Christmas break.
If going home this year isn't an option, then you might not be feeling in that Christmas mood as much as normal. Stay positive given the strange year that has been 2020. Brighter beginnings are in sight!

Explore
Use this time to get to know your university city. Find the little parts you haven’t had the chance to visit before. Enjoy some festive walks and see some Christmas lights! Take a little flask of hot chocolate with you for enjoying half way.

Get started on next trimester’s work

If you can get a head start on next trimester, whether it’s reading books or planning projects, it’ll help you in the long run. And, it will give you something to do to take your mind off everything. You’ll then have more free time when your friends come back, so you can catch up with them properly.
Pick up your hobbies

Use this time to go back to hobbies that you might have dropped when deadlines picked up. Or, you could also explore new ones. Take up painting, reading, crafting, anything that takes your fancy. Find something that will keep you occupied over the next few weeks!
Talk to your family & friends
It’s a very family orientated time of year. And even if you don’t celebrate Christmas, it can be hard to be away from those you love for any length of time. So make sure you stay in contact via video link. It's good to talk!
