Improving Architecture Student Access

ArchiFunk are gearing up for a student lead campaign to provide more architectural facilities in the Chelmsford Library, as well as offering up the idea of 24-hour studio access!

It has come to the attention of ArchiFunk that many architecture students are constrained by the time that they are allowed to study in the design studio in an evening. When mentioned to students, many were interested in following up on this problem, and would be willing to provide their support.

The articles that were brought up in a recent meeting were as follows:

1) Students are constrained to building opening hours for access to the design studio, whereas other schools of architecture are granted 24 hour access to their own.

2) Simple drawing tools (drawing boards ect) are not currently present in the Chelmsford Library (Or in tiny numbers)

3) There is a lack of design programs installed on library computers.

Due to the closing hours of the architectural studio, many students trying to complete large tasks before deadlines are struggling to find alternative resources. We are not talking about anything advanced, like A1 printing, but just the mere basics, such as design programs and drawing boards.

As such, we here at ArchiFunk are asking for all students of architecture and architectural technology to get on the band wagon and start talking to your respective student reps about this issue.  We shall also be attending the Anglia Ruskin Union Council on the Tuesday 13th March, to bring up our arguement to try and hopefully find a solution.

We shall keep you updated on our progress, and fingers crossed we will get some results!
