We are not satisfied with being a non-racist union, we must be an anti-racist union. We will always stand against racist actions and language, as with all forms of hate. Any instance of hate is taken with severity by the SU and will not be tolerated by the union; made by, or against, students; staff, or the wider community.

Systemic hate requires our collective strength to be challenged and abolished. We want our members, the students of ARU, to know we will be at your side in combatting hate at any point in your lives. We encourage all students to speak out against hate, be that on campus, in the classrooms, or the streets of your towns and cities.

If you experience or witness an instance of hate on campus, you can report it anonymously to ARU via the Unsilenced platform. You can also speak to the Chaplaincy for support.

You can also lodge a formal complaint if you are subject to unacceptable behaviour, including hate, from another student or a university service or staff member. More information about this can be found on the Harassment Support at ARU website. If you aren’t sure if this is the right place for your complaint, please see this list on what incidents you can tell ARU about. Making a complaint can be daunting, and our Students’ Union Advice Service can support you in making a complaint:

·         Advice for Cambridge & Chelmsford Students

·         Advice for London Students

·         Advice for Peterborough Students

·         Advice for Writtle Students

If you experience or witness a hate crime off-campus, you can report it to the police either online or by dialling 101 if it is not an emergency and dialling 999 if it is an emergency.

And if you have ideas on how we can improve our union, and how we can work with you to breakdown hate, email us at inclusion@angliastudent.com

Yours in solidarity,

The 23-24 Officer Team
