Home-Start Essex is a leading family support charity working across Essex to build the confidence and skills of parents/carers to achieve healthy and positive outcomes for children. Our work comprises a long-established volunteer home visiting service, offering emotional and practical help to families experiencing difficulties, alongside a range of family groups, well-being programmes, courses and events. We work with families with at least one child under the age of eight, and offer some events for families with children up the age of 11yrs.

This opportunity is ongoing, with no end date.

We recognise that being a parent can be hard work, especially with young children and that many parents feel exhausted and overwhelmed by the stresses of family life. It can be even harder when faced with issues such as post-natal depression, a child’s illness or disability, isolation, or multiple births. The families we help come from a wide variety of backgrounds and are looking for support for many different reasons.

    Currently Active Volunteering Roles:

Home-Visiting Volunteer - Home-Visiting Volunteers offer families support and encouragement in their home by visiting them once a week for a period of six months

Telephone Befriending Volunteer - Our Telephone Befrienders offer emotional support and guidance to families through one-to-one phone calls with a parent/carer

Wellbeing Volunteer - Home-Start Essex run a selection of face-to-face and online wellbeing groups to provide parents with coping mechanisms, build friendships and peer support, talk openly in a non-judgemental environment and improve their mental health. As a Wellbeing Volunteer you would support parents in these groups

Family Group Volunteer - Our Family Group volunteers support at our local Family Groups run by our Coordinators and Play Workers
