The main focus of this role is to support and champion the rights of young and vulnerable people whilst in police detention. Specific Project Requirements: • To attend Police stations to offer support to young or vulnerable people whilst in custody in line with the specification set by the Youth Justice Manager. • To review custody record information to ensure compliance with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1986 and subsequent Codes of Practice. • To ensure that persons in custody receive their rights and entitlements as laid down by statute. • To signpost young and vulnerable persons towards appropriate additional support services on their release form custody. • To monitor interview procedures and ensure that the detainee is dealt with in accordance with the appropriate codes of practice. • To work within YMCA policies and procedures, with particular regard to health and safety, equal opportunities, diversity, protection from abuse, data protection and information sharing. • To complete all relevant paperwork relating to activities, evaluation, clients and risk as decided by the Youth Justice Manager. • To participate in reviews of practice and procedure and implement any changes agreed, working within the agreed YMCA quality framework. • To keep up to date with evidence based knowledge, skills and current legislation. • To continually develop own professional knowledge and skills in line with best practice.
