Telephone Support Volunteer - Stow-cum-quy

This opportunity takes place from 10 Jan 2019

Telephone Support volunteers play a key role in keeping someone who’s affected by dementia connected. By taking a personal, warm and engaging approach to their role, our Telephone Support volunteers provide a friendly, tailored proactive support service. The role makes a huge difference and the volunteers play a fundamental role in on-going person centred support. Volunteering in this will involve: •Providing social contact and a listening ear by making and/or receiving telephone calls to/from people with dementia and those who care for them • Providing information and advice regarding dementia and associated issues, ensuring it is relevant, appropriate and accurate • Recording service related information, passing it on to appropriate personnel • Respecting confidentiality and ensuring it happens in practice • Liaising with colleagues, whether volunteer or staff, as required • Helping to promote local Society activities, where appropriate, via contacts made • Developing a good understanding of Alzheimer’s Society activities, and other local services, so that questions/enquiries can been handled well • Attending learning, development and support activities to help you in the role • Respecting service standards, appropriate boundaries and being aware of the range of policies and procedures that impact on the activity being carried out. You will be supported and role managed by a Dementia Support Worker. You will be working within the Cambridgeshire area, from the Alzheimer’s Society’s local office based in Stow-cum-quy and contacting people who live in Cambridgeshire, providing a telephone based follow up service. Ideally the role will involve 4 hours volunteering, fortnightly (no specific date). We will take a flexible approach to accommodate the right applicants
