Break the Cycle: Access to mental health services at ARU

Wed 13 Nov 2019

Other universities in the country have already started to make the first step at tackling mental health by using the Big White Wall as well as Slivercloud in conjunction with one another. These include, but are not limited to, University of Liverpool, Keele University, Queen Mary’s University, University of Wales Trinity Saint David, Kings College London, University of Aberdeen and The University of Greenwich. A progressive university such as ARU should be amongst these universities listed.

What is the Group Chat?

Make some noise. This is your space to make ARU more representative, more accessible and more student-led. Find out more.

What do you study?

I have just finished studying my final year of BA Sociology within the faculty of Arts, humanities and social sciences. It has been a fantastic course, would 10/10 recommend.

What made you stand to be an Officer?

For the past 3 years, I have been involved with the Students Union by working at The Academy. Also being a course representative for both my first and third-year meant that I was able to get to know not only the student union staff, other students but also university staff within the faculty. It was always a running joke throughout my time here at the university to run in the election... and then I actually did it! I am so happy that I get to do this job for a year!

Share your three favourite tunes

Favourite songs at the moment:

1)  "Half light" by  BANNERS

2) "Empty Gold" by Halsey

3) "Otherside" by Post Malone

What are your priorities for this year?

My priorities for this year is to not only enjoy this experience and time in office but to gain a further understanding and get to know all the societies students love at Anglia Ruskin. Student engagement and experience was a huge part of my university experience and I hope to focus more on this for other students.

Tell us something not many people know about you.

I was born in America so I have dual citizenship for America and here in the UK. Although I've been in the UK since I was 6 so I have lost my American accent.

What's your ultimate ARU moment?
I have had many ultimate ARU moments such as Freshers, student union events like Karaoke to the SU awards so this is a tough one... I don't think I will be able to narrow it down to one but my favourite part about ARU has been making new friends and meeting some of my best friends through working with them at the students union.

If you had a super power what would it be?

If I had a superpower it would be to teleport. I don't really know why but the idea of being able to just go wherever you want, whenever you want appeals to me.
