Your elected Vice President for Business and Law, Mary Copsey, recently hosted two international games nights as part of her international support campaign. The aim of this project: "To create an environment where international and EU students will feel part of the community".
The two events were hosted during Global Week and there was student and society involvement throughout the planning and at the event. As well as this I worked in collaboration with the international office and the faculty of Business and Law.
Key Student feedback
Students were asked ‘Overall were you satisfied with the event/activity?’ and given the opportunity to complete an anonymous survey. Key themes that arose were:
‘95% said they enjoyed the event’, ‘It was such a fun event and it was great to see so much participation and engagement from students’, ‘It was very organised event and learned various other countries games’, ‘Got an opportunity to interact’ and ‘It was a relaxed environment and it was so friendly’.
"would love to have another event like this run, even if it isn't during Global Week"
Students were also asked ‘Do you have any other feedback you would like to share?’ and given the opportunity to complete an anonymous survey. Key themes that arose were:
‘Would love to have another event like this run, even if it isn't during global week’, ‘Great event’, ‘We hope to have this again next month’, and ‘I got to meet new people and make some more friends’.
You asked, we listened…
What we will consider going forward:
- Incorporate a quiet space at the event for students to have a safe space where they can take time out from gaming and address the feeling of overcrowdedness and anxiety.
- We LOVE! That our SU spaces were overflowing with students but we understand that it could become overcrowded. Going forward, we will evaluate our spaces to make it more accessible for our students and consider using other alternatives e.g. The Academy, Cambridge.
- Okay, we know… You LOVED the international games nights! I have been working behind the scenes to see how we can make this possible. Keep an eye out!
