How Can I Become a Rep?

All students who are members of ARU Students' Union are able to stand for election as a Rep in a maximum of 3 roles: 1x Course Rep or Postgraduate Research Rep, 1x Officer, Campaign or Faculty Rep role and 1x National Conference Delegate position.

Officers

Officers (President and Vice Presidents) are elected during our The Elections in February / March each year. These paid roles have a term of office of one year starting in June.

Voluntary Rep roles

Course Reps, Postgraduate Research Reps, Faculty Reps and National Conference Delegates are elected in October during The Rep Election, which takes place online. These roles have a term of office from October - 31st August.

Additional Course Reps are elected in January for specific intakes. These elections take place in your classes.

To nominate yourself as a candidate, head over to the elections page and see what roles are open now. Keep your eyes on your inbox and pay attention in your classes - our January intakes, nurses and other vacancies are sometimes elected in your classrooms!

To find out more about each role, please click on the tabs above.

By becoming a Rep you will benefit from experience and opportunities which will help you to develop key employability skills including communication, negotiation, problem solving and strategic thinking within the following tasks:

  • Gathering feedback from students using a variety of tools.
  • Presenting feedback impartially in University meetings.
  • Working in partnership to find and negotiate solutions to issues.
