Our Advice Team has expanded! ARU London Students’ Union are looking to recruit an Academic Welfare Adviser to join our team, based on campus at ARU London (East India). In this role, you will provide information and support to students on a range of academic and welfare issues.
What you will be doing
- Providing students with accurate and relevant guidance, information, advice and support, on a face-to face basis as well as via telephone, e-mail and social media
- Advocating on behalf of, and representing students as required at formal and informal University meetings and hearings
- Working in partnership with the ARU London team, developing a solid knowledge of the wider Students’ Union services and activities to be able to effectively signpost students
- Proactively collating themes and evidence of current student issues to inform any necessary campaigning work for our Vice President (ARU London) and our Course Reps
- Developing and maintaining close links with University staff and specialist outside agencies concerned with student education and welfare in the local region and nationally, and when necessary refer/signpost externally
What we’re looking for
- A background in offering support and/or advice
- Experience of working flexibly with a non-judgemental focus with a range of clients
- An understanding of the pressures facing students
- Strong advocacy skills, both written and oral
- Effective organisational skills and able to prioritise work and retain composure in a busy environment working under pressure

Where will you be working
This role is mainly based on our London campus in East India, with weekly visits to the Farringdon campus.

About Anglia Ruskin Students’ Union (ARUSU)
ARUSU represents approximately 20,000 students at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) across campuses in Cambridge, Chelmsford, Peterborough and London. In addition, we provide a range of services; academic and welfare advice, support to students running societies and volunteering opportunities in and around the campuses. Whilst we play an important student representative role that sometimes sees us challenge the University, we work closely with them and support areas of delivery within their strategy.
